このたび、2026 年度の Commons Garden 国際文化交流事業として、アメリカとメキシコを訪問することになりました。

Commons Garden とは、庭を造る活動ではありません。

自然を媒介に、人と人、人と自然、人と歴史、そして人と未来を結び直し、違いを理解し、
共感を育む「場」を創る活動です。

そこでは、世代や立場、文化や国籍を越えて共に身体を動かし、自然と向き合う時間を共有
します。

その体験から対話が生まれ、信頼が育まれ、未来への希望を身体で感じることができると信
じています。

今回の訪問では、ニューヨーク、ボストン、そしてメキシコ・グアダラハラにおいて、日本
庭園文化やPruning Meditation（剪定メディテーション）を通じた国際文化交流を行い
ます。

剪定とは、単に木を切ることではありません。

光と風の流れを整え、未来の成長を見据えながら、本来の姿へ導く営みです。

それは同時に、人が余分なものを手放し、本質と向き合う時間でもあります。

自然を先生として、身体知や感性、共感力、そして他者への理解を育む文化実践だと考えて
います。

今回の主な活動は以下のとおりです。

• 8月23日 Jay Heritage Center（ニューヨーク州）
• 8月24日・25日 Frost Valley YMCA（ニューヨーク州）
• 8月27日 在ボストン日本国総領事館 特別講演
• 9月3日～5日 メキシコ・グアダラハラ日本庭園

私たちが目指しているのは、単なる文化交流ではありません。

国や民族を超えた信頼関係を育み、京都で育まれた文化を通して、世界に「文化による信頼
のインフラ」を築いていくことです。

Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing well.
This August and September, I will be traveling to the United States and Mexico to share a
project that has become my life’s work, Commons Garden.
Commons Garden is not about creating gardens.
It is about using nature as a bridge to reconnect people with one another, with nature, with
history, and with the future.
By working together in nature, beyond differences of age, culture, profession, or nationality,
we create spaces where empathy, dialogue, and trust can naturally grow.
One of our core practices is Pruning Meditation.
Pruning is not simply cutting branches.
It is the practice of seeing the whole, allowing light and wind to pass through, and making
thoughtful choices that support future growth.
At the same time, it invites us to let go of what is unnecessary and reconnect with what truly
matters.
Nature becomes our teacher, helping us cultivate awareness, compassion, creativity, and
understanding through direct experience.
This year’s international cultural exchange program includes:

• August 23 – Jay Heritage Center (New York)
• August 24–25 – Frost Valley YMCA (New York)
• August 27 – Special Lecture at the Consulate-General of Japan in Boston
  “Japanese Garden Cosmology: The Concept of Commons Garden – A Space of Shared
  Empathy”
• September 3–5 – Japanese Garden of Guadalajara, Mexico
  Our goal is not simply cultural exchange.
  We hope to build lasting relationships of trust that transcend nationalities and cultures, and
  to nurture an invisible infrastructure of peace and mutual understanding through culture.
